LOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 16, 2010) – Some of the most iconic photographs in rock-and-roll history come together with the fun and fast-paced world of slot car racing at the Petersen Automotive Museum on July 24, in the one-day-only ROCK FOR MS event to benefit non-profit MSFriends. As seen through the lens of the late Jim Marshall, widely considered the greatest rock photographer, the rare images to be auctioned are a partial grouping of original prints from a collection held by Nissan North America.  They include photos shot by Marshall of the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and The Who; along with a series of Marshall’s photographs which document the behind-the-scenes development of the Nissan GT-R sports car – shot at venues in Japan and at the famed Nürburgring motor complex in Germany - all donated by Nissan. The intersection of rock-and-roll and car culture will also be highlighted during ROCK FOR MS through additional photos of rock stars and their cars from photographers, including Baron Wolman, the Rolling Stone’s first staff photographer; Lynn Goldsmith, whose photographs have appeared on the covers of Life, Newsweek, Time, Rolling Stone and many other notable publications; and Gered Mankowitz, who toured America with the Rolling Stones in 1965. Moreover, auto racing stars - including Vic Elford, the last British Monte Carlo Rally champion and first man to lap at 150mph at Le Mans; and Trans-Am champion and 1971 Le Mans 3rd Place holder Tony Adamowicz - will be on hand during ROCK FOR MS to serve as celebrity drivers for races on a dozen slot car tracks that will be constructed with the help of the Glendale -based FarrOut Slot Car Racing Club – making it the largest assembly ever of slot car tracks on the West Coast. Amelia Davis, President of MSFriends, a non-profit organization that provides 24/7 over-the-phone support for people with multiple sclerosis, said, “We’re fortunate to have the ongoing support of the individuals and companies that make MSFriends possible.  This event at the Petersen is the perfect opportunity to honor Jim Marshall by bringing together two of his passions – rock and roll and fast cars – and by making his most iconic images available to bidders, benefiting a cause of which he was our first, and greatest, supporter.”  ROCK FOR MS will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with slot car activities and viewing of the photos throughout the day.  The photo auction will be held at 4 p.m.  Sponsors of the Rock for MS event include Genentech, Biogen Idec and Jack Daniels. Tickets can be purchased at www.msfriends.org, or at the door.  Prices range from $30 adult general admission and $20 junior general admission, to the $500 Le Mans Experience, which entitles participants to race every track - and race with the auto racing stars.  All proceeds will directly benefit MSFriends.  About MSFriends
